I first discovered Zuzanna Kubicka somewhere in the Instagram beauty rabbit hole, and was refreshed to see an amazing makeup artist that posts (mainly) looks that aren’t impossible for the average person to recreate. The spider one is definitely an exception. Then I clicked on her personal profile and realized she’s not a makeup artist at all, just a freelance social media manager in Poland who is bomb at makeup! We talked about her typical day at work, beauty icons, and what she sees for her future. She says makeup is just a hobby, but I say just for now! Scroll down for our interview.

Your IG bio mentions you are a social media manager. Can you tell us more about your job and how you got there?
In high school, I started helping out a local business with social media and promotion pro bono. I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to do professionally at that time, but quickly realized that social media was something I was extremely passionate about. From there, I started looking for more job openings or simply offering my services to business that didn’t use social media and that’s basically how I got to where I am now.
What does your typical day at work look like?
I work freelance, so I don’t have to work out of an office, which is great because I’m also a student right now. I can plan my work around my classes and social events. On a daily basis, I’m in charge of content planning, copyright, analytics, responding to messages and comments. The only time I have to come in to work is for photoshoots and to discuss new ideas.
Your makeup account, @zuziasiemaluje, has gained quite the following. Is makeup just a hobby for you?
I love experimenting, I love creating and makeup happens to be favorite form to do so. I created my makeup account for fun – because that’s what makeup is to me, it’s fun. I wanted to share the idea that makeup doesn’t have to be boring, it doesn’t have to feel like a chore and it shouldn’t be mandatory. I’m not planning on having makeup be my job, at least not full time, but I’m not opposed to that idea. I mainly just do makeup on myself, sometimes on friends and family for special occasions.
Who is your beauty icon?
My all-time favorite beauty icon has to be Rihanna. No matter the makeup or outfit, she always carries herself with such confidence – that’s what I find most beautiful about her and what I try to channel myself as well. Currently, I’m also swooning over Ezra Miller. He’s not a beauty guru or makeup artist, but I’m loving everything he’s representing aesthetically, both makeup and fashion wise. I’m not a fan of strict beauty norms, especially when it comes to gender – Miller’s current aesthetic is a huge middle finger to beauty standards.
What’s been the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
You’ll regret the things you didn’t do more than the things you did do.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I’m hoping to have finished university with a Master’s degree in New Media and hopefully I’ll be working in a creative field, most likely in social media, photography or videography.
Who on Instagram is inspiring you right now?
I’m drawn to more experimental, colorful makeup, drag makeup included. Right now I’m especially in love with Antoinette Mahr, Salwa, and for drag makeup, Imp Kid and Kiko. From these four, there hasn’t been a single look that didn’t have me rushing to my makeup drawer to play around.
