I start every morning with my Alexa news briefing and either an Audible book or a podcast. Podcasts are way more fun, though. These 5 are the only ones I listen to, and they just happen to all be run by women! Some are just for fun, some are about politics, and others focus on business – there’s something for everyone!
I don’t know where I’ve been for the past 5 years where the trend has really taken off, but I just got into them this year and can’t stop. I don’t know why I even read books or why I even watch the news when I could listen to someone say it riiiight into my ear while I work on my computer. I’m definitely a multitasker, and trust me it’s not the best habit to have. Sometimes I wish I could just eat a bagel or just workout, but in this fast-paced world, I seem to think that not pushing yourself to your ultimate productivity level at every second of the day is just a big ol’ waste of time. It’s not. It also is probably the reason for my through the roof anxiety and unwillingness to leave the house unless I did 3 days’ work in 8 hours. So please, do us both a favor and listen to one of these while you just lay on your bed, eating a peach and drinking tea. Or just drinking peach tea.
Frequency: Every Friday
The self-proclaimed “podcast for long-distance besties everywhere”, CYG is my personal favorite podcast to listen to, and it makes a great end to my week. Aminatou and Ann describe themselves as “highbrow and lowbrow, fiercely opinionated, and not afraid to realtalk each other about everything from menstrual cycles and body shaming to the Cheeto in Chief and workplace drama with devastating wit”. If you’re looking for a brutally honest and real pop culture and politics catchup, this is the podcast for you.
Frequency: Every Wednesday
While I love the wit of the CYG podcast, Women Rule is my favorite business/career podcast to listen to. It features women from all occupational fields and a new guest speaker shares her story, its successes along with its challenges, of how they got to where they are. Past speakers include the NHL Executive Vice President Kim Davis and Glamour’s Cindi Leive.
Frequency: Every Tuesday
It’s not always easy to talk openly about our hardships, and Nora McInerny wanted to create a place where she gets real about the pain and grief that people have to spend their day trying to ignore. In her own words, ttfa is ” a funny/sad/uncomfortable podcast about talking honestly about our pain, our awkwardness, and our humanness”.
Frequency: Every Tuesday
Being Boss was created by two women who started their own successful businesses to inspire others to do the same. Similar to Women Rule, they have a guest speaker every week who shares their career path and story. Unlike WR, all of the women Being Boss features are entrepreneurs and created their own success from scratch.
Frequency: roughly 5x a month
